In-house trainingHousekeeping Supervisor Skills
Key Outcomes
Inspect fairly and consistently
E.g., two supervisors score the same room photos, compare scores and agree what "pass" means.
Coach on the spot with SBI
E.g., "In room 512 (situation), the mirror had streaks (behaviour), and the guest arriving at 2pm would have seen them (impact). What will you do next time?"
Re-sequence work to stay on schedule
E.g., three attendants are absent, so early-arrival and VIP rooms go first.
Move from peer to supervisor
E.g., a firm, respectful conversation with a long-time colleague who keeps skipping the checklist.
Why teams need this
Senior attendants are promoted for cleaning well, and nobody teaches them to inspect, coach or schedule. So they redo the work themselves, fail rooms without explanation, or avoid friction with former peers. Feedback done badly backfires: Kluger and DeNisi's 1996 review found over a third of feedback interventions decreased performance. Raters also differ. In Scullen, Mount and Goff's 2000 study of ratings, 62% and 53% of the variation reflected the rater rather than the person rated.
